Stornoway Fish Smokers   Shell Street Stornoway   Isle of Lewis   HS1 2BS
Stornoway's premier supplier of smoked fish, kippers, salmon, and shellfish. As well known traditional fish smokers, we can supply you with the best in traditional smoked fish.   Located in Shell Street, Stornoway, the old centre of the herring industry, Stornoway Fish Smokers is the last of the traditional kippering houses on the island and one of the few remaining on the west coast of Scotland.
Stornoway Kippers.  Famous for 150 years these are split, salted and smoked hanging from tenterhooks as tradition demands (not flat on their backs). Excess moisture and oil drains off the kippers allowing the oak and beech smoke to permeate the herring flavouring and adding colour naturally. The result is mouth watering and exceptional. Available also as boneless kippers.

Latta's Mill    Map B1 Location at the north side of the golf course
Recently restored, Latta's Mill is a very fine example of an 'overshot' corn mill, one of three built by the Mackenzie family, owners of Lewis at the time.  The mill was named after John Latta, who died there after an accident in 1834.  The mill was destroyed by fire in 1890 and not rebuilt until recently.  Some of the original equipment, including the mill stone and part of the wheel etc can be seen at the mill.  All of the other equipment has been completely rebuilt.  Inside the mill interpretive displays tell the story of the mill and its workings.  A must see for families with young children.  They will be enthralled by the water and the motion. No entrance fee.
